Special Dispatch to The Constitution. Jonesboro, March 10 -- The people of this county, with but few exceptions, appear to acquiesce in the verdict of acquittal rendered in the Julia Johnson murder case. The theories now afloat are that Julia may have wounded Betsy Farmer and an accomplice done the killing of the old lady, and another that the whole affair was THE WORK OF TRAMPS as parties of that character had been passing the roads and seen in that vicinity. The trial of Julia Johnson upon the charge of assult with intent to murder Betsy Farmer may be an opportunity for developing fully one or another of these views of the case. Owing to the illness of Mr. Jeffries, this last case has not yet been set down for a day certain. The trial will be almost as interesting ???? one upon the graver accusation ???????????????????. The people of Clayton county are honest, sturdy and intelligent, and move in obedience to their better impulses when called upon to act in their community character. Their patience and forebearance in this affair have been a great triumph for the cause of law and order. TOTING HIS LITTLE GUN The grand jury has been industriously going for the gentlemen who bear arms in times of peace unlawfully and several special presentments have been returned. Among the parties thus accused is a young lawyer and politician of note, residing in Atlanta, who took an active part in the last Congressional canvass in this district. During a public speaking in this town he became involved in a controversy and exhibited "his gun" too freely. For "toting about" this banner of political argument he is to be called upon to make his defense to the superior court, now in session. The other party in the controversy was today acquitted of a charge of assault. THE OTHER MURDER CASE The case of Lambert, a young white man charged with the murder of his brother, was today continued on account of the absence of a material witness for the state. This material witness also had an election row, for which he was indicted, and last week he lit out for Alabama. Though this doubly wanted by the state he has gone away to other fields. Active steps are being taken here to secure the rebuilding of the academy recently destroyed by fire. It is hoped the efforts will be successful. S. W. S.
