H. Huie, the popular Clayton county school superintendent, and one of the counties most substantial citizens, was a visitor in Jonesboro on Monday. On Thursday afternoon there met with Mrs. Luke Z. Gilbert a number of her friends who were invited to meet Mrs. Oscar J. Coogler and Mrs. John Damon Winter. CLAYTON COUNTY SUNDAY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCEMENT. ---------------- The 4th quarterly meeting of the Clayton county Sunday school association will convene with Jones chapel Methodist church Saturday, July 19th. Jackson, who was taken suddenly ill. Miss Alice Brown visited Miss Elvie Burks Sunday. An enjoyable event was the pound supper recently at the home of Mr. J. N. Simpson Miss Yada Gilbert was at Forest Park the 4th attending the annual singing. The many friends of Mr. L. C. Daniel, who is very sick now, are hoping for a speedy recovery. Miss Maud Eubanks was the guest of Miss Clara Brown last week, returning to her home in Atlanta Saturday. Mr. Berry Langley is visiting his father and mother near Piedmont, Ala. Mr. Gleave Gibson, of Orchard Knob, was guest of Mr. Bose Brown Sunday. Well, as everything is O.K. in this vicinity, will ring off. Misses Marguerite and Morine Cousins were guests of their grandmother, Mrs. I. W. Cousins, at Bennett's Mill. Master "Billie" Stephens entertained several of his young friends on last Friday afternoon in celebration of his fourth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Hightower, Sr., have as their guests Mrs. C. W. Cooper and two little sons, and daughter, Miss Norine Cooper, of Commerce. Mr. J. F. Davis has returned from the great reunion of the Blue and Gray veterans at Gettysburg and reports that it was a grand occasion for the boys of 61-65. Miss Maurine Cousins entertained several of her young friends at a birthday party on Wednesday afternoon from five to six o'clock. She has reached the happy age of ten years. Mr. L. H. Jones is expected to arrive home from south Georgia on Saturday. Mr. Jones and family will leave on Wednesday of next week for the mountains of North Georgia, where they will spend the summer. Mr. Edgar Shipp, Jr., was a visitor in Jonesboro for the past week-end. Mrs. Shipp, who has been the guest of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. T. C. Cannon, accompanied him on his return home last Sunday.  Mr. and Mrs. L. Z. Gilbert have as their guests, Mrs. John D. Winter and three little children, of Leland, Miss. Mrs. Winter is a cousin of Mrs. Gilbert, and has stopped over for a visit of several days in Jonesboro, while en route to Virginia for the summer. Mrs. R. L. Webb and children, of Barnesville, are the guests of Mrs. W. T. Sims. Mrs. E. O. Morrow, who has been the guest of friends at Brunswick for several weeks, will return to her home here on Saturday. Mrs. A. A. Kirkland has as guests this week, Mrs. J. J. Hall, of Atlanta, and Misses Barrow, of Fairburn, and Miss Boula, of Atlanta. Mr. J. H. Reeves has returned from his second trip to Gettysburg, and is loaded with "news" for the "boys." Mrs. B. D. Campbell and little son, of Kirkwood, are the guests of Mrs. Campbell's mother, Mrs. D. A. Mann. -------------------------------------- THE SUNBEAM PARTY. -------------------- Miss Flora Blalock entertained her Baptist Sunbeam Society on the church lawn Tuesday afternoon from five to six o'clock. The children enjoyed many interesting games and one of the most pleasant features for the little folks was the serving of ice cream. -------------------- YOUNG PEOPLE'S CLUB. ------------------------ Miss Wyona Carnes delightfully entertained the "Young People's Club" on Friday evening of last week. Music and games were enjoyed throughout the evening, after which delightful refreshments were served. The color scheme of red, white and blue was carried out in every detail. Those who enjoyed Miss Carnes hospitality were Misses Irene Benefield, Sarah Rivers, Nadine Harper, Gladys Dorsey, Lynn Dodd, Ruth Fife, Gussie McMullan, Florrie Jane McMullan, Zimmie and Wyona Carnes, Annie Mae Nash, of Atlanta; Messrs. Clark Mathes, W. J. Cousins, Harry Scarbrough, Hiram Brown, Josh Wotton, Ira Evans, Emmett Medlock, Hiram Lawrence, Lamar Adamson, Paul Fife, Carl Evans, Seymore Martin, Henry Dorsey, and G. W. Cook, of Atlanta. ---------------------------- Miss Sarah Rivers left on last Saturday for Douglasville, where she will be the guest of Miss Rose Abercrombie for a week. Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Benefield, and Miss Zilpah Huie, of Riverdale, were guests of Mr. J. H. Benefield and family, last Sunday. Miss Jessie Mae Coogler is in Atlanta, the guest of relatives. Mrs. Ocona Benefield Smith spent last Sunday in Atlanta, guest of Miss Sarah Kate Anderson. Miss Eunice Sims, of East Point, is the guest of her cousin, Miss Kathleen Duffey, this week. Mr. Mercer Wallis, of Atlanta, was a visitor with relatives here Tuesday. Mercer is a skilled printer and holds an important place with the Sunday American. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Murphy, of Fayetteville, were the recent week-end guests of Mrs. B. Deane.  Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Hanss, of Atlanta, spent the last week-end in Jonesboro with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Stanley, of upper Clayton, were the guests of relatives in Jonesboro on last Sunday. Mr. J. G. Evans, of the firm of Evans Bros., will leave Saturday night for New York and Boston, where he will spend several days purchasing goods the fall and winter trade. Mr. Otis Mann and children, of Buena Vista, are guests of Mrs. Mann's father, Hon. John M. Mundy. Mr. John F. Wallis, of Conyers, was here Tuesday for a visit with the family of his son, Mr. Joe Wallis, and he was also a most welcome visitor to this office. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Holcomb, of Atlanta, were the last weekend guests of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Coogler. Mr. J. M. Stanfield, and family, of Hapeville, were the guests of relatives here for several days during the past week. Mr. J. A. Huie, of Riverdale, was in Jonesboro on Monday in the interest of the Flint River drainage district. Mr. and Mrs. K. E. McMullan had as their guests on last Sunday Mr. Boyd Carmichael, of McDonough, and Miss Kittie Mae Mitchell, of Dutchtown. Mr. Delma Stanley, of Atlanta, was with his home folks here on last Sunday. ------------------------- METHODIST YOUNG PEOPLE. -------------- The young people of the missionary society of the Methodist Church had an interesting meeting Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Reeves had charge of the occasion, and a most instructive program on Cuba was presented. Miss Mattie Sue Suttles gave her report from the missionary conference recently held at Jackson. This report inspired all who heard to more zealous work in the future. -------------------- PLEASANT ENTERTAINMENT. --------------------------- Miss Lukye Harper entertained Wednesday night with a lawn party in honor of Misses Lizzie Lou and Bessie Mae Davis, of Columbia, S.C. Punch was served by Miss Irene Benefield and Nadine Harper. Ice course was served later in the evening. Allen, of Riverdale, were in Jonesboro Tuesday. Mrs. N. W. Williamson and Master Lovick Williamson are guests of relatives at Inman. Mr. Burge Harper, one of Jonesboro's popular young farmers sent in a cotton bloom on July 4th. Messrs. C. R. Camp and R. G. Carico, of Atlanta, were the guests of Mr. A. A. Camp and family for several days of last week. Sheriff C. D. Dickson left for Milledgeville Thursday afternoon having in charge two negro men who had been adjudged insane. Miss Langford, the popular and attractive "shopper" at J. M. Mr. Jim Cook, of Atlanta, is the guest of his sister, Mrs. J. C. Campbell this week. Mr. Will Edwards, who was severely cut last week, is slowly improving at this writing. Mr. John Wallis, of near County Line, passed through this community Tuesday, en route to Jonesboro. Most of the farmers around here are about of the grass. Harris, of Jonesboro, spent a few days of this week with Miss Georgia Harris. Messrs Ira Kirkland and Claud Archer, of Jonesboro, were visitors here Sunday night. Mrs. Florence Tucker entertained the young folks with a singing Sunday night. Mr. N. Mann, of Jonesboro, is a visitor here this week. "Bud" Tucker still makes calls in Jonesboro. Masters Hollis and Grady Calaway, of East Point are spending a few days with their cousin, Aubrey Henderson. Mr. and Mrs. Lon Stanley, of Fayetteville, spent Sunday with relatives here. Mr. Melvin Trammell and sister, Miss Ellie, of Morrow, were visitors here Saturday night and Sunday. Miss Pauline McElroy, of Selina, was a visitor here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Estes and little son, Jarvis, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Tucker, at Morrow. Mr. and Mrs. Will Benefield had as their Sunday guest the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle McKennie, of Atlanta. Mrs. Jones, of Hapeville, was the week-end guest of her daughter, Mrs. E. L. Dorsey, Little Frances Dorsey returned with her for a few weeks visit. Mrs. M. E. Estes, Sr., who has been visiting relatives here and at Inman for some time, has returned to her home in East Point. Master S. D. Dorsey, of Fayetteville, is spending a few weeks here with his brother, E. L. Dorsey and family. We are sorry to disappoint the people, but it was thought best to postpone the all day singing that had been announced for the 2nd Sunday in August. Remember the day and everybody come.
