She was born in Clayton County, Ga., on March 13, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Oce Patrick Comar Scott and Nancy Elvira Sims Scott. She was the wife of the late Emmett Lewis Kelly Jr., who died in 1989. Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker. BANKE SR. of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2002, after a long series of illnesses brought about by complications following surgery. Judge Banke was born in Pilot Point, Texas, Aug. 8, 1916. After working his way through the College of Marshall in Texas, Judge Banke ENLISTED IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY AND SERVED AS AN OFFICER DURING WORLD WAR II. After the war, Judge Banke settled in Forest Park and graduated cum laude from the John Marshall School of Law in 1951. Judge Banke began his practice of law in Clayton County and was elected Solicitor General there in 1956. In 1960 he was elected judge of the Clayton Superior Court and served until 1977, when Gov. George Busbee appointed him to the Georgia Court of Appeals. Judge Banke served as Chief Judge of the Appellate Court from 1985 through 1986, and as Presiding Appellate Judge from 1987 until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, Judge Banke was appointed Senior Appellate Court Judge by Gov. Zell Miller, and served in this capacity until July 1, 1999. Judge Banke's leadership included service as President of the Clayton County Bar Association, President of the Council of Superior Court Judges, member of the Board of Governors of the Bar Association, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of John Marshall Law School. Earlier in life, Judge Banke was an accomplished athlete and musician, as well as a world traveler. He was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church and the Forest Park Kiwanis Club. His first wife, Margaret Banke, preceded Judge Banke in death. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, from the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church with Dr. Spencer R. Frye officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Billy Jackson (Jack, Jackie, Griff, Eye Ball, Billy Jack, B.J.) GRIFFIN was born in Langdale, Ala., Aug. 2, 1934. He was employed by Western Electric and retired after 30 years of service. He was very active in union activities and was the union representative for a number of years for the local Communication Workers of America. He was heavily involved in The Forest Park Athletic Association in capacities including Coach and Manager. He coached youth for more than 15 years and after he stopped coaching he was president of the Senior Division Leagues. He also served as a coach for the youth football programs in addition to youth baseball. It was during his time as a youth baseball coach that he invented and received a patent for the Eye Ball, a baseball batting training aid that he used to train his players to be better hitters. Henry Aaron was a former endorser of this product. He marketed and sold this product to sporting goods stores and retail outlets. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, being a member for most of his adult life. He was also an avid baseball fan and was a very loyal supporter of the Atlanta Braves, being a season ticket holder for a number of years.
