Nixon, Jr. nixon_wg@bellsouth.net October 21, 2006, 1:08 am Clipping from Unknown Newspaper The date is not written with the obit, but the information leds me to believe it was from the Issue of Sunday, April 14, 1957 George Marvin Nixon George Marvin Nixon, 75, a retired guard at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, died Saturday at the home of his niece, Mrs. J. C. Butler, of 132 Earnest Dr., Forest Park (Clayton Co., Ga.) Mr. Nixon has made his home with his niece since being dismissed from a hospital three weeks ago. Prior to moving there, he lived in Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. at Mt. Carmel Christian Church. The Rev. Jack Ballard and the Rev. Gordon Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in the churchyard. Mr. Nixon was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church. A native of Coweta County, he had lived in the Atlanta area most of his life. He was a guard at the federal penitentiary for 27 years and retired about five years ago. Survivors area his wife; sisters. Mrs. C. A. Neil (sic) of Ragland, Ala., and Mrs. Nanny Harolson of Atlanta, several nieces and nephews, and several great- niece and nephews. Additional Comments: George "Marvin" Nixon was the son of Joseph Giles Nixon & Susan Caroline "Carrie" Peek. His first wife was Ida Maria Swygert. They had one son, Joseph Albert Nixon, who died at 10 mos from pneumonia. Ida passed away just a few months later.
