On June 19, 1898, the spirit of Mrs. Lidia Moore Tate passed from the sorrows of earth to the celestial abode of the saints. Mrs. Tate died in the ninety-second year of her age, in the full triumph of the Christian faith, her last words being, "Oh! Lord! Lord!" Sister Tate, after living for more than forty years in the Methodist Church, decided to follow her Savior in Baptism and united with Tanner's church, and was baptized by Rev. J. M. DeFoor, in the year 1889, at the age of 82. Sister Tate loved her church and exemplified the grace of a true Christian woman in all the relations of life. Though lovely in person, she was more lovely in character, quiet, gentle, amiable, cheerful, affectionate and kind. And even in the last days of her sad afflictions, pain and suffering, she never uttered a word of complaint, but bore it all as a true soldier of the cross, saying: "If it is the Lord's will, let it be so." She leaves a son and two daughters, a number of grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn their loss. And then we think: "Why do we mourn departed friends, Or shake at death's alarm? 'Tis but the voice that Jesus sends To call them to his arms." And, be it resolved, by the Tanners church, That this tribute be spread upon the church records, and that it be printed in the CHRISTIAN INDEX, and that the bereaved family be furnished a copy. THE CHRISTIAN INDEX August 11, 1898 Tanners Church Cemetery, Clayton County, was in Henry County until Clayton was formed in 1858. Tombstone recorded by Tommie Phillips LaCavera in December 1989.
