He was born July 10, 1922, in Suwanee County, FL to the late William Eugene and Lillie Mae Touchton Croft. Mr. Croft was a United States Army World War II veteran and served in the Southwest pacific operations from 1941 until 1944. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and was postmaster at Fargo for thirty-three years. Mr. Croft was also a lifelong beekeeper. He was a member of Edith Baptist Church and served over sixty years as a deacon. Mr. Croft was the first appointed mayor of Fargo. He was a member of the Sioux Bee Honey Association and served on the Board of Directors for sixteen years. Mr. Croft was editor of the Georgia Cracker, where he received numerous awards. He was a Southern Region Representative for the Postmaster Gazette. Mr. Croft was a member of the Clinch County Hospital Board for five years and was chairman for two years. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Leah O'Quinn Croft of Nashville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Croft Highsmith (Dell) of Cleveland and Marlene Croft Garrett (Charles) of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Debbie Gay Croft of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Ronald Highsmith (Beverly), Cami Shadburn (Michael), Christopher Croft (Simone), Will Croft (Maria), Laura Baldree (Ken), Jada Humphress (Jed); sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Croft is preceded in death by his son, Jerry Herbert Croft and his sister, Beatrice Moore. Funeral services were held January 3 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Futch officiating. Interment was in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Carson McLane Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
