Talmadge Guess, 74, affectionately known as “Brother Talmadge” for his ministry, serving his Lord and master, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at his residence. Brother Talmadge was born May 24, 1939, in Lanier County to the late Aaron Guess and Louvinnie Brogdon Guess. He moved with his family to Ware County, at the age of 13. He attended Ware County schools and graduated from Waycross High School in 1957. Brother Talmadge accepted the Lord at his savior at the age of 14. He was ordained at the age of 17 on August 25, 1957, and preached the Word of God and lived it out until his last breath continually witnessing even from his bedside. He pastored the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church, commonly known as Brother Talmadge’s church for 40 plus years. He was a supervisor on the Alapaha Soil Conservation Board and he served on the board for 25 years. He drove a school bus for the Clinch County Board of Education 23 years and was a self- employed master plumber. He was an avid hunter, outdoors man and had a love for horses and was a devoted Clinch County High School sports fan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dartha Steedley Guess; one brother, Edward Guess; five sisters, Gaines Cox, Myrtle Bennett, Mickey Williams, Gene McMillian and Eloise Bailey. Survivors are his wife, Sybil Morrison Guess of Homerville; three sons and daughters-in-law, JaRon and Ann Guess of Blackshear, Carthel and DeeDee Guess and Tracy and Sylvia Guess all of Homerville; one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Gary Daniel of Manor. He was affectionately know as “Papa T” bay his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren which include, 10 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Gues, Tristan Guess, Ethan Guess, Carleigh Guess, Drew Daniel, Garrett and Rachel Daniel, Traven Guess, Travia Guess, Talon Guess and Zorea Guess; one great-grandson, Amaziah Guess; two step-daughters and son-in-law, Karla and Wade Daniel, Kristi and Jim Dickerson all of Homerville; four step-grandchildren, Ryan and Tina Daniel, Chase and Brooklyn Daniel, Trey Dickerson, KristiAnna Dickerson; six step-great- grandchildren, Grayson Daniel, Cathryn Daniel, Braelyn Daniel, Gage Daniel, Hannah Daniel and Luke Daniel; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Brother Talmadge’s Church, Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. Interment was in the Pine Forest Cemetery.
