Booth Sr. Dies Suddenly At Manor Home Prominent Ware farmer Henry Afton Booth Sr. died suddenly at his residence at Manor yesterday. The 80-year-old resident was well-known throughout Georgia. He was instrumental in establishing numerous farm agencies designed for the welfare of farmers. Member of a pioneer family long identified with the growth and progress of Ware County and South Georgia, Booth was the son of the late William Henry Booth and the former Maggie Murray of Manor. A former chairman of the Ware County Agricultural Stabilization committee, he was a member of the Ware County Board of Tax Assessors, member of the Manor School trustees, and member of the Waycross-Ware Stadium Authority. He was instrumental in organizing the Ware County Farm Bureau, the Farmers Mutual Exchange and Ware Turpentine Protective Organization, which later became the Ware County Forestry Unit. A trustee and member of Booth Congregational Methodist Church, where he formerly served as steward, he was also member of the Waycross Lodge. Booth was honorary member of the Altamaha Hunting and Fishing Club and the Waycross Hunting and Fishing Club. A life-long farmer Booth was well-known for his naval stores operation and farm program. He was a well-known tobacco grower. He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Belle Smith of Clinch County, and five sons and five daughters. His sons are W. E. Booth, H. Alton Booth, Leland C. Booth and Hubert T. Booth, all of Manor, and J. Ormond of Skyland, N. C. His surviving daughters are Mrs. Jack Davis (Belle Dean), and Mrs. J. A. Shinholser (Aileen) of Manor, Mrs. Robert Hinson (Lillian) of Cogdell, Mrs. Robert Brooks (Ila Mae) of Jacksonville, FL and Mrs. Carey James (Theta Ann) of Columbus. Surviving are two brothers, T. M. Booth of Daytona Beach, FL, and Frank Booth of Savannah; two half-brothers, T. Walstein Booth of Manor and H. M. Booth of Panama City, FL; three sisters, Mrs. Roy J. McDonald of Waycross, Mrs. Rosa V. Burgess, twin sister, and Mrs. Fannie E. Smith, Jacksonville, FL, and one half- sister, Mrs. Lourene Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, 17 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (7-2-1963) afternoon at 2:30 at Booth Congregational Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. The body will remain at his residence at Manor until time of the funeral. Miles-Odum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
