Perry Betper@aol.com March 11, 2004, 11:48 pm Clinch County News Clinch County News, Homerville, Georgia--12 September 1941 Death of L.A. Mattox End Comes to Clinch County Farmer Last Week. Leon A. Mattox, well-known farmer and life-long resident of Clinch County, died at his home three miles south of Travisville, Friday of last week after an illness of several months. The funeral and burial was held at the Homerville cemetery last Sunday afternoon, and the funeral was conducted by a Mormon elder from Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Mattox was 64 years old and was born in Homerville, a son of Hon. Hamilton A. Mattox and Mrs. Helen M. Mattox, highly respected citizens of the county in their day. He spent most of his life on the farm where he died, which was the home-place of his parents after they moved to the farm from Homerville. The deceased was a good quiet man of many fine traits of character, and leaves a good name to his family as a legacy as well as seven hundred acres of land and other material possessions. Surviving are the widow who is a daughter of the late J.E. Booth, and also surviving are five daughters and two sons all of whom are grown and away from home except the two youngest.
