Tomlinson, 78, of Port St. Joe, died Saturday at Gulf Pines Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Georgia, he had lived in Port St. Joe for 51 years. He had been an active member of the First United Methosidt Church since 1938, and was an organizer of the Boy Scouts in Port St. Joe and recieved the Silver Beaver award for his work in scouting. He came to Port St. Joe in 1936 and served as city auditor and clerk until March 1948 when he went into business. He retired in July 1981. He also served as municipal judge for a period of time. Tomlinson was a charter member of the Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow of that organization. He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Jones Tomlinson, one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Tomlinson Huff, and son in law, Alvin Huff, of Mendenhall, MS ; three granddaughters and two great granddaughters; three brothers, Alton Tomlinson and William H Tomlinson both of Savannah, GA., and Aubrey R Tomlinson of Port St Joe; two sisters Emma McHugh of Pearson, GA., and Lois Johnson of Brunswick, GA. Funeral services were held Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Holly Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church. All services were under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home.
