FAIRFIELD METHODIST CHURCH (African-American) Directions to the cemetery: Highway 41 between Acworth, GA and Kennesaw, GA is Mars Hill Road. Travel Mars Hill Road to Fords Road. There is a subdivision on the left with the intersection that reads Fords+Fairwood. On the right is a very old green trailer, and a place to pull off . That GPs reading is: 33 59.049N 084 43.285W At this point and time, if you will look straight ahead through underbrush, and old car parts, you might catch a glimpse of the cemetery, however, this would be the easiest way to access it: WALK STRAIGHT AHEAD! This cemetery was surveyed and photographed by Nema Hunter Mobley and Myra Whitmore Stewart, March 23, 2005. Simmons Jane 26 Sep 1907 Age 45 Yrs. Humphries Moses 5 Sep 1905 Age 76 Yrs. Huiel Unknowns =================== The land was originally owned by a Mr. George Ford's great grandfather. His grandfather made an one acre donation to the African American Methodist Church for their cemetery. Another man in the community donated an acre of land on which the church was built. It is thought to have sat across the road from the cemetery. Mr. Ford's Mother and Father ran the old time store/meeting place at the junction of Mars Hill Rd and Fords Road. My anonymous person has called Cobb County about this cemetery several times over the past 20 years, and has received very little cooperation. As of very recently, Cobb County has denied that a cemetery is at this location, and did not have it showing on any of their documents. At some point in time, they did send an archaeologist to the site, and the archaeologist has confirmed 76 graves and they are marked with flags. The yellow flag designates the head of the grave, and the orange flag designates the foot. It was an understanding that Cobb County would come clean around the cemetery, and fence it. This has not been done. At this time we do not know if the cemetery has documentation in Cobb County. It is our wish that those people living in Cobb County, and others who want to preserve history, will take an interest in this cemetery, and get this matter taken care of.
