Letter written by Ben Franklin Sizemore to his family
in Blount Co AL. 



Marretta Cob County Georgia 
Janury the 14 1870 
der brother 
i seat my self this morning to drop you a letter
to let you no ____ i am giting a long i hop thes lins
will find you all well and doing well i havent bin out of
the bed five minus at a tim in 2 weeks my head is not
well yet i has ___ had the doctor at work on ___ severl
tims and bit is bot well yot i havevt don a monthes work
senc i has bin here i____ had to spend a good del of
money i got my leg ___ broke and ____ cost me a right
smart i am not able to pay my doctor bill i havent got
out of the bed to rigt this leter wash you wold right me
one letter i cant right much right as son as git this
letter right you ar all gitting ____ along right what has
becom of bill adkins and (jhon besduancer) and right hamp
i wast you wold send som money if you can i am living
hard i wald be glad you cold send me som if lit wald be
only five or ten dolars and tell john and gorg to send me
all tha can and i a will return ____ as son as i git able
to ______send bit by lette as son as you can if you send
____ a __ll send bit if you can i havent heard a ____
from you senc i left ther tell mother i cant forgot her
you right where mother is living and how she is gitting
along i wold be myty glad to here from you right now you
ar keping secus ___ tim i have got 2 more letters to
right and my tin will be out do not forgit to right me be
of one mind and of you cumfort ma god bless you i cant
advise non of you to corn to ____ John dont forgit me and
bee a good boye bee good to mother hav no enemis and you
will be respected for it will bee a long time i will see
you when i am gon _ don bee weping tell gorg i cant
forgot him yet ples send me a little money if you can i
will very much ablig you ____ lile servent my pen is bad
and my mind pest__ i cant right to do any good i cant
right much more so i must com to a close by saying i

DKHZ notes: Ben Franklin Sizemore was born on 11 Feb 1851
in Benton Co AL. He was the son of William Sizemore and
his second wife, Elizabeth Barnett. Ben's brothers were
Wade Hampton (1849-1929), George Washington (1852-1926),
John Harrison (1853-1935), and Levi (1854-1856.) There is
no information as to what happened to him after this
letter was written. (See also his letter written in
1868.)
