Cobb Co Geo August 23 1868 Dear Mother and Brothers I seat myself to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines may find you enjoying the same blessing I have been sick but I have got well again I had the fever bothe the cousin Johns have been sick but they are about well now John Williams wife Amanda bas been sick also, she is well now John William has joined the church he joined the Methodist church his wife belonged to that church Mother and brothers I would like to see you very much indeed for I think of home very often, but as I can not see you I would like to hear from you. I have not heard from you since I left there, but I have wrote one letter to you and this is the seond one. Write as soon as you get this if you do get it. Times is hard. I will tell you the price of things corn is going @ one dollar a bushle wheat is worth 1.75 per bushle, wheat crops were very sorry this year here corn crops are not gathered yet but they look very fine now. I am better sattisfied than I have been since I left there I am very well pleased at presant. I am working at the same place that bothe the Johns are, we are working at Mr Manning 6 miles east of Marietta. I dont think John William could of done any better by marying any body else he has got a very nice little wife she is prety and smart she is only 16 years old ___ wife has got no father living John is living with his Motherinlaw. Uncle Ephrum Sizemore and Uncle George Sizemore are living in Guinite County. I heard from them the first of July last I did not hear any thing about whither they were well or not I just heard where thy were living. I saw cousin Henry Sizemore when I was coming out here he lived in Cleabon County Alabamy he was well then he was wounded in the arm and in the thy in time of the ware. He was the son of William Sizemore and his second wife, Elizabeth Barnett. Ben's brothers were Wade Hampton (1849-1929), George Washington (1852-1926), John Harrison (1853-1935), and Levi (1854-1856.)(See also his letter written in 1870.) People referred to in his letter: John William Barnett, b. abt 1847, m. Amanda Jane Roling on 2 Jul 1868 in Cobb Co GA. Amanda Jane b. 11 Mar 1852 GA, d. 24 Mar 1892, Cullman Co AL. John William was a son of Isaac and Lena Barnett. Ephriam and George Sizemore, sons of Henry and Abigail Sizemore. The other "cousin John" is probably the son of Amos and Lucy Ann (Hodge) Barnett.
