B. 25th Battn, GA., Provost Guard Inf. discharged, disability, Sept 1862. Born, Cobb County April 1831. Additional Comments: Russell Clay's father, John Clay b. NC, (married to Athlinda Black b. NC) listed on 1834 Cobb Co., Census,CLAY, JOHN, 10 family members; and CLAY JAMES, 7 fam. members (probably John Clay's father, James married to Ms. Caruthers, NC)Clay family came to Newton, then Cobb Co., GA in 1830's by Oxcart from North Carolina. Settled in Cobb and Paulding Counties. Jasper Clay, cousin to Russell Clay, married Martha Pace, Paulding Co., was elected to state House of Representatives after Civil War.
