The Journal tried to keep “correspondents” in all the outlying communities - civic-minded (or just nosy) individuals who were requested to submit the news of their neighborhood on a weekly basis to the newspaper. Following are a few of those “dots” MARIETTA JOURNAL Issue of April 28, 1932 MCCOLLUM’S CROSS ROADS Those visiting Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keown Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Keown, of Mill Creek, Mr. W. T. Keown and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Merritt. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Youngblood spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Youngblood of New Home. Mrs. J. S. Goss has returned to her home near Big Springs after spending some time with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keown and children spent Saturday with Mr. W. P. Goss and family of Big Springs. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Watkins and Mrs. D. S. Keown spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Keown, of near Roswell. Mr. J. P. Manous spent the weekend with Mr. J. B. Manous of Atlanta. Miss Daisy Keown was the Saturday night guest of Misses Ruth and Florence Reeves, of Mill Creek. Mrs. J. E. Merritt visited Mrs. J. F. Merritt one day last week. Mrs. Carl Youngblood spent one day last week with Mrs. T. W. Watkins Mrs. W. H. Keown was called to Atlanta last week on account of the death of her aunt, Mrs. Bessie Benson. Several from here attended the singing at Mount Zion Sunday. Mrs. Bessie Freeman and Mrs. Mae House, of Toonigh, were visiting Mrs. Marie Keown Wednesday afternoon. NEW SALEM Preaching will be held at this place Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. J. P. Tarpley and daughter, Juanita, visited Mrs. J. L. Reid and daughter Monday. Misses Sue and Katie Lee Frasure spent Wednesday with their sister, Mrs. Albert Hughuse. Misses Inez and Marie Ferguson spent Saturday night with Miss Ruby Reid. Miss Katherine Kirk, visited Miss Mettie Frasure Thursday. Mrs. Alvin Scroggins, of Marietta, spent last Friday with Mrs. Lee Lawson. Miss Flonnie Smith spent Sunday afternoon with Miss Sue Frasure. Mrs. Add Brackett and Miss Bertie Brackett, of Mt. Olivet, visited Mrs. Taylor Truelove Saturday. EAST NEW SALEM Mrs. Amos Cox and infant, of Rome, spent part of last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Newton. The friends here of the family of Mr. Ben Stanley sympathize with them in the death of Mr. Stanley, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Will Morgan, of Atlanta, Friday. Interment took place at New Salem Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Gilbert, of Decatur, and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Gilbert, of Hapeville, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Fleet Hicks. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Lawson on April 22nd, a fine girl. Mr. and Mrs. Albert James, of Marietta, visited Miss L. E. Hardage Sunday afternoon. WESLEY CHAPEL Mrs. V. N. Mabry, of this place, spent a few days last week with her mother, Mrs. J. M. Morgan, of Sardis, who is sick. Misses Nancy and Maudie Coleman spent Friday night with Mrs. Clayton Brown. Mrs. Ann McFarland, of Marietta, visited Miss Edith Garrett one afternoon recently. Mrs. W. T. Verna, Billie Fricks, Misses Corinne and Nellie Fricks, of this place, all spent the weekend with Mrs. F. L. Fricks and family. Miss Gertie Greer was the guest Sunday of Miss Alta Freeman of Harmony Grove.
