The Marietta Journal April 23, 1896
STORY

I think that when Sam Jones ran the devil out of Atlanta that the devil come up
through Cobb and Paulding counties, judging from the crime that is being committed.

What a wonderful thing is nature.  Mr Joe Phillips' wife found an egg that had a
hard shell inside of the outside shell and both shells containing white and yolk.

Wheat and oats are looking well, corn and cotton coming up slowly.

Mr John Hadaway, wife and son are on a visit to his son's at Hickory Flat,
Cherokee county.

Mrs John A Lewis is very sick, also the baby of Mr Jim Hill is sick at Mr W P
Wills.

A good singing at T J Lunsford's Sunday night.

LENARD

Cotton is coming up rapidly.

Mr Lu Bishop and wife visited relatives in this community Saturday and Sunday.  

The Rev Joseph Gable preached an interesting sermon at this place last Sunday.

Mr Jim Bowles and Miss Nannie Bowles visited their father near Oakley Mills last
Saturday and Sunday.

Mr John Puckett of Powder Springs has gone into the fodder business, we guess,
for we see him taking a pole around with him.

Our Sunday School has been quite small, but as the weather has turned warmer the
people are turning out in the good cause.

DUE WEST

Mr Newt Orr and wife of Clayton county spent Saturday and Sunday with their
mother here. 

We can see a fellow every few days going after a little more guano to finish
some little spot of land.  It does seem like that the farmers are determined to
overdo the thing this year in cotton.

We can boast of the largest apple tree in the county.  It is seven feet and nine
inches at the base and is as large otherwise.  It is about 55 years old.
