He enlisted in the Marines May, 1917, later going to France. He was a splendid type of young man in his twenty-second year. He is survived by his father, Mr E D THOMAS of Camp McClelland, Ala., two brothers, Joe THOMAS who is with the Marines in France, and Edwin THOMAS who is with the Marines at Paris Island, S. C., three sisters, Mrs R E HIPPS of Marietta and two others. Mr and Mrs Roland McCURLY of Cherokee county was recent visitor to their son, Mr Wm McCURLY. Miss Viola WRIGHT of Due West section spent last week with her sister, Mrs Carl WINN. Mr and Mrs John ORR spent Sunday week with Mr and Mrs W A REESE at Hickory Grove. Mr S J PYRON, Sr., has brought from Mr G W PRICHARD the cottage opposite Mr W N BORING residence. Mrs Tom FLINN and family have moved to Mr E Y HILL's house on Acworth St. Owing to the inclement weather Sunday, quite a lot of the friends of Ernest Willie DAVENPORT, whose Memorial Services were announced in the Journal last week to be held at Mars Hill, were prevented from going. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved parents and relatives. (For the benefit of our Kennesaw correspondent, who seemed last week to be in doubt about the matter, we will state that the records show that John R WARD was a surveyor of Cobb county from 1870 to 1896, excepting two years of this time when he did not offer for the office, and it was then filled by Joel MABEL. Prior to 1870 the record is not available and he may have served. - Editor) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/cobb/newspapers/kennesaw2500gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.3 Kb
