The remains were carried to New Hope, Cherokee county, for interment. The funeral was conducted by Rev Marshall McCoy. She leaves a husband and five small children. (**) MARRIED - Miss Lizzie Pitner and Mr Jim Colbert of Dallas, Sunday, 6th inst. They will reside in Dallas. MARRIED - Mr Thomas McRea and Miss Lizzie Bass of Atlanta, 8th inst. Mrs D J Crown is visiting relatives in Atlanta and Macon. Mr M A Cason has returned from Hot Springs, Ark., improved in health. Rev W E McCollum has been called to the pastorate of Mt Olive Baptist church and will preach there the third Sunday and Saturday before. Mr J B Gunter, superintendent of the Star Gold Mines, has moved his family from Tallapoosa to this place, occupying Mrs S J Pyron's house on Acworth street. Miss Emma Arnold of Atlanta is visiting her sister, Mrs Charlie Cason. Mr J H Owen and wife have moved to near Acworth. Rev Sam Jones makes the announcement through the Atlanta Journal that his tabernacle meeting will commence this year May 12th and close May 20th. Miss Wissie McRea is visiting Mrs W H Cason at Heflin, Ala. Misses Ollie and Hettie Hicks of Atlanta visited relatives here Sunday. Mr John Brinkley and wife spent Sunday with Mrs Brinkley's parent, Mr Sordan and wife, at Elizabeth. - Gipsy Additional Comments: ** This may be the Mattie Duke born 1874 who married John Virgil Smith on October 19 1890 in Cherokee County GA. Census listings show her five surviving children as Fred, Olan, Dewey, Edith, and Marie/Mazie. There is a New Hope Baptist cemetery in Cherokee Co, but she is not noted in the cemetery book.
