She was the widow of the late John N MAYES. The family lived here but moved to Texas more than 25 years ago. She was a good woman, a member of the Presbyterian church. Beside her two brothers she has a number of relatives here to mourn her death. Miss Ida SCOTT is assisting Prof W B JOHNSON in the school here. Judson WATSON has been sick with grip but glad to state he is improving. We are glad to see the Marietta papers outspoken against a near beer saloon. We believe the people of the country would be bitterly opposed to having it sold. It would teach our boys to be drinkers and cause trouble in general. Let the city authorities count the cost before opening a beer saloon. Our community was shocked at the sad accident that occurred here Monday morning, resulting in the death of Mr Cicero SEAGRAVES. He, in company with Dr W D WRIGHT, E L MAYES, Sherman WATKINS and H B CLAY were cutting telephone poles on the side of Lost Mountain and he was standing near a falling tree which pulled over another tree and as it swung back it threw a limb that struck Mr SEAGRAVES hear the top of head, fracturing and crushing the skull. Dr W D WRIGHT gave him medical attention and immediately summoned Dr C T NOLAN. He was hastened to Dr NOLAN's sanitarium where an operation was performed on the skull but he never regained consciousness after the lick and died about two o'clock Tuesday morning. Mr SEAGRAVES was highly respected and commanded the esteem of the entire community. He stood ready to help in any good work in the community, was a very obliging neighbor, cheerful and kind to all. His sudden death has cast a gloom over the community. He leaves a wife and one child, two brothers and one sister in Chico, Texas. Bird SEAGRAVES of Chico was summoned and came immediately to attend the funeral. He was a faithful member of the Baptist church and his funeral will take place at Midway as soon as his relatives arrive. The entire community feel a profound sympathy for the sorrowing wife. - Allen File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/cobb/newspapers/lostmoun280nnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/gafiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
