On the incoming freight train Rufus DOWLER, a negro train hand, to a position on the fender of the engine to be in readiness to change the switch for the train to take side track. When the engine slowed up he sprung from his seat and running in front of train to reach the switch, his foot slipped on a tie of the tressel and he fell and before he could recover himself was run down by the engine and both his legs were so crushed that he lived only a short while. Before dying he exculpated the railroad authorities from any blame in the matter, saying he took the chances himself. Miss Agnes KENDLEY, one of our worthiest young ladies, has a good school at the new church. Our old time friend, genial Jack MORRIS, occupies the late Robert DANIELL brick cottage and will operate the farm the present year. Success to him. The dyeing department of Concord Factory started up last week preparatory to putting everything in motion soon. The numerous friends of T F JEFFRIES were much gratified to note from his charming little letter in the Journal that he not only "still lives" but is coming to the front again. May prosperity and length of days yet be meted to him. - Kon.
