The schools had a spelling match and delightfully entertained the visitors with some good spelling. Both classes did well and reflected credit on themselves. Prof SYLVESTER has a carefully trained school, and by their splendid spelling gave evidence that he has given them careful and special attention. Smyrna has done well to secure his services. The last to go down for Smyrna was Miss Nina RUFF. Those left on the floor for Olive Springs were: Lela HICKS, Ester SANDERS, Elba BARBER, Clyde BROOKS, Walter WISE and Phillip PROCTOR. Col W R POWER was present and gave out the spelling. He expressed himself greatly pleased with the idea and said he hoped other schools over the county would take the same steps. These spelling matches will bring about a great deal of enthusiasm and hard study by both schools. Our school will go down and spell with Smyrna in the near future. Col POWER has the thanks of both teachers and students for his services in making it an agreeable and profitable occasion. Mr H D BARBER of Atlanta visited relatives here last week. Rev D L MOON filled an appointment at Bethel church last Sunday. The young men and boys of the community have organized a Debating Society, which meets every Wednesday night. They will give a public debate and entertainment in the near future. A trick of rascality was played on Mr Plenn ALEXANDER by a dirty rascal, who pretending to be his friend, persuaded Mr ALEXANDER to accompany him to Chicago, in pursuit of a lucrative position. When they got to St Louis, the supposed-to-be friend robbed Mr ALEXANDER of his money and threatened to take his life. Mr ALEXANDER has returned home. We have not heard what has become of the robber but we hope he will be caught and rigidly dealt with. -Fundi File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/cobb/newspapers/olivespr2378gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.6 Kb
