The death of Mr M S GILBERT's child was noted here last week, but failed to appear in the Journal, from some oversight I suppose. The sudden death of Rev A G DEMPSEY, in Oregon district last Friday, threw our community into a great surprise and sadness, and his large family and connections into deep sorrow. His remains were kept until Monday, so that one of his sons who lives in Austin, Texas, might be able to be present upon the sad occasion of his father's burial. Since writing the above I learn that owing to a misconnection of trains, his son will not be able to reach Smyrna in time to see the commitment of his parent's remains to the earth. Capt Joel MABLE will have some interesting engineering knowledge to communicate to those who feel an interest in Georgia's resources. Mr PACE's gin is kept humming now. Cotton is "white to the harvest in a thousand fields."
