Abbeville District, South Carolina NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, APRIL 14, 1853 STOP THE ROGUE Taken from my residence on Sunday night the 6th of March, a detached, lever watch, french gold, made by Duchene Peyrot and numbered No. 68277, Geneva. The watch is supoosed to have been taken by a man who stopped at night with me at the time it is supposed to have been taken. The said individual called himself Mr. Morris while at my house, but I have since ascertained that his real name is Bud LAY. Said LAY has recently been a citizen of Cobb county, Georgia but I believe that he is now on his way to York District, where he originally emigrated from. He is about five feet ten inches high, dark straight hair, dark skin. At the time he was with me, he wore a moustache without any other beard and had on a plush cap, dark cussimere coat, gray pants and no vest and wore a gold watch and chain, with three gold rings on his fingers. He professed to be a tobacconist. He is a much sharper man than he would pass for and persons encountering him had best be on their guard. A liberal reward will be paid for the delivery of the watch and the detection of the thief, or for sufficient information to secure a conviction. B.D.
