A freight train on the W & A R R was going north, and Mr BARRETT was trying to keep back some people who were intent on crossing. He was standing on the L & N track, and the confusion and noise of the freight train passing rendered him oblivious of the approach of the incoming train, and as he turned around to re-cross the track, the engine of the L & N struck him on the head, knocking him from the track, crushing his skull, breaking his back, neck and leg, and killing him instantly. Mr BARRETT was about 72 years of age, an old Confederate soldier, a man of sobriety and correct habits, and esteemed by our people. His tragic death is deeply regretted by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and eight grown children. The funeral of Mr BARRETT took place at the family residence on Monday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev W L PIERCE of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev J H PATTON and Rev A R BOND. Interment in city cemetery. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved family.
