Black & Son, in Marietta, on Saturday evening last a painful and fatal accident happened to L. Mat. Black, which resulted in his death a few hours afterwards. Mr. Black was feeding the plainer when the machinery struck a knot and sent with terrific force a slivered piece of the plank against his leg, which made a large and ugly gash in the fleshy part of his thigh from which the blood flowed freely and could not be checked, and from which he died from exhaustion of blood. Just four months and ten days before his death he and Miss Ella Hames, of this county, were united in marriage and, having just completed and furnished for themselves a handsome and comfortable dwelling in Marietta, had begun life, under extraordinarily bright and propitious surroundings. Both were young and energetic, and life to them bid fair to be one of continued happiness and prosperity. But, how uncertain is life-to-day we are stout, hale and happy, to-morrow we may be launched into eternity, and too, as he was, without scarcely any warning. He was a young man about 22 years of age, of good habits, noble and generous soul, energetic, good workman, honest and truthful, and a consistent member of the Methodist church. We tender to the heart broken wife and mother, and the grief stricken sorrowing brother, sisters, relatives and friends, in this hour of their deep and almost unbearable trouble our sincere sympathies as a personal friend of them and the dead young man. May they bear up under it with christian fortitude, remembering that "all things work to gether for good to them who love God."
