La grippe was the direct cause of his death, although he has been in a weakened condition for several months past. Mr GANN was born in Cobb county in 1846 and spent all of his life in Georgia. When but a mere boy he went to the war with Lee's Battallion and was discharged with the cavalry at Macon, and at the close of the war came back and settled near Smyrna. He was one of the charter members of the Smyrna Baptist church and since its organization he has been one of the first men in his church, having been made a deacon when the church was organized. He began life as a poor boy and like many others after the war he had to hew his own way, but he made up in common sense and natural ability all that he lacked in education. He was a man of honesty, unquestioned courage, a devout Christian and a faithful friend. He is survived by his wife and four children, Messrs Turner and Travis GANN and Misses Estelle and Ethel GANN, an aged father, Henry GANN, two brothers, E GANN and P Y GANN, two sisters, Mrs W H BALDWIN and Mrs P J VOSS, all of Smyrna. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence and the interment at the family cemetery near Smyrna. Rev A J MORGAN, Rev J M SPINKS and Rev MITCHELL conducted the services. The cross from UDC's was presented with some appropriate words by Mr Gid MORRIS, one of the few veterans who now remain of the thinning ranks of Confederacy.
