He was born near Watkinsville, then Clark, now Oconee county, Ga., August the 10, 1834. His father the late John N GANN moved to this county in 1836 and settled 1-2 mile west of concord factory where he spent his childhood days until he was grown. He was married to Louise WADE the first Sunday in January 1855 and in 1856 they moved to the present old Homestead where he resided continually until his death except the 4 years spent in the civil war. He joined the Baptist church at Concord in August 1855 and was Baptised by the late Rev Henry WILLIAMS in which church he lived a faithful member until the end. He was a gallant soldier of Stovall's Brigade, was second lieutenant of Co. E state troops. At the battle of Atlanta July 22 -64 he was wounded from which he never fully recovered. He leaves 2 sons, O D and P H GANN, 2 daughters, Mrs J D DODGEN and Mrs F C KALB, 21 grand children, 18 great grand children, 2 brothers, Judge J M GANN of Marietta and N T GANN of Atlanta, 2 sisters, Mrs J T BOND and Mrs T B DODGEN of Mableton and many other relatives and friends to fourn (sic) his going away. He was the oldest man of this section and will be sadly missed especially by his children to whom they often went for counsel. He was a man noted for his works for peace in church and in his community. He was laid to rest at old Concord cemetery Monday afternoon at 3:30, beside his companion who preceeded him 3 years, 2 months and 15 days. The pall bearers were his two sons, O D and P H GANN and four grandsons, Frank and Pearl GANN, Tom DODGEN and Monroe KALB. Rev A B SEAY, a life long friend, officiated and spoke beautifully of his life work in church and community. Many relatives and friends followed the body to the grave. The family desires to thank their many friends for the beautiful flowers and many kind words of sympathy in this sad hour. The home is broken and Father is at rest, asleep with Jesus, blessed sleep from which none ever weepwake to weep, yet we are left in tears. Truly a good man has gone to his reward.
