The Marietta Journal, May 3, 1894
Rev J C HOLMES of Acworth died on Wednesday night of last week.  His illness was
quite brief, but he felt conscious that the summons had come and he said he was
ready to depart.  He was truly a good man.  As a minister he was earnest and
sincere, and as an educator he was efficient and faithful.  His death is deeply
regretted by a large circle of friends.  His funeral took place at the Methodist
Church in Acworth on Thursday last, Rev P M RYBURN and Rev Mr EDWARDS of
Marietta conducting the service.  The church was crowded by sympathising friends
and citizens who esteemed him highly.  His remains were interred in the Acworth
cemetery with Masonic honors.  He leaves a married son, and other relatives to
mourn his death.  Peace to his ashes and rest to his soul.
