The Marietta Journal  December 7, 1893
Sorrow treads closely upon the heels of Joy.  Hardly had our Thanksgiving notes
of rejoicing died away, before the voice of weeping was heard among us.  Death,
whom no bolts nor bars can shut out from our firesides - Death, God's Angel of
Life - if we could learn to regard him as such - has been in our midst and has
borne away from the LESTER family circle another loved one.

Mr Joseph H LESTER, who died early on last Friday morning, and whose funeral was
attended from the Methodist church in Marietta on last Monday morning, was a
young man possessing many noble qualities of head and heart.  Genial and social
in his nature; earnest and faithful in his struggles to provide for the family
whom Death had already doubly robbed of its head, he has passed away, in the
prime of his manhood, leaving a large circle of friends to mourn his loss, for
Joe was a universal favorite, beloved by all who knew him, and especially by the
children among his acquaintance, for whom he had always a pleasant word and
smile, or sympathy and encouragement.

The members of the family desire to return their grateful thanks to the
neighbors and friends from whom they have received so many acts of kindness and
expressions of sympathy in this dark our of their bereavement.

Mr D P LESTER and Mr J Irwin LESTER are at the present writing both seriously
ill and unable to attend their brother's funeral.
