Mr MATTHEWS had been a citizen of Marietta for nearly twenty years, coming to this place from North Carolina. He was a fine scenic artist, carriage and sign painter, and followed that pursuit while a citizen of our town. He was a man of good education and intelligence and conducted himself with decorum and uprightness. Fourteen years ago he married Miss Julia PILGRIM of this place, who survives him. Three boys blessed this union. Mr MATTHEWS was a member of the Episcopal church, and in his death our city has lost a worthy and respected citizen. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife and children in this hour of sorrow and gloom. The funeral service took place at the Episcopal church on Sunday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev G P HEBBARD officiating. After which his remains were placed to rest in the city cemetery. CARD OF THANKS I desire to thank all the gentlemen who were so unremitting in their attentions and kindness to my husband during his sickness up to his death. "Every heart knoweth its own bitterness," and mine has felt the pangs of sorrow no little, but my gratitude knows no bounds to those good friends for their kindness and sympathy. Respectfully, Mrs Julia MATTHEWS File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/cobb/obits/m/matthews1383nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
