Mr McLAIN was born near Marietta, Ga., July 27th, 1839. He was in his seventy-ninth year. He spent his childhood and early life in Cobb County. At the age of eighteen years he united with the Methodist Church at Sandy Plains, later serving his church as steward. At the beginning of the war in 1860 (sic) he enlisted in the 18th Ga. Regiment, serving throughout the entire length of the war, having seen active service in the 2nd battle of Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Seven Pines, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, in which battle he was wounded. He was held prisoner three months at Johnson's Island, New York. In 1864 he was married to Miss Nancy Jane NORTHCUTT. To this union were born seven children, four of whom survive him, Will of La Veta, Cal., Bob of Longview, Texas, George of Acworth, Ga., and Mrs Julia BARNES of Longview, Texas. He is also survived by three brothers, James, Andy, and Peter McLAIN of Acworth, and three sisters, Mrs Elizabeth WELLS of Atlanta, Mrs E H NORTHCUTT of Marietta, and a number of grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives who mourn his death. He lived in Longview, Texas, for about twenty years during which time his wife died. For the past three years he made his home with his son, George McLAIN, in Acworth, where he enjoyed the love and respect of all who knew him. The funeral services were conducted by Rev S H DIMON at the Presbyterian church of Acworth, Ga., at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning, the interment was at Mars Hill cemetery. Six of his nephews acted as pall-bearers, Dr Charles McLAIN of Calhoun, John McLAIN of Acworth, Jessie A McLAIN of Canton, John COLLINS, George and Charles NORTHCUTT of Marietta. A large number of friends and relatives from Acworth and vicinity, Marietta, Atlanta, Dallas, Cartersville, Calhoun, and Canton, attended the funeral.
