"Peg-leg" is dead. B. G. Neal, a confederate veteran at the Soldiers' home, better known to the inmates and visitors as "Peg-leg," passed away suddenly at the home Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock. Mr. Neal was 78 years old. He became an inmate of the Soldiers' home in November 1902. He gained his sobriquet from the fact that he had lost one leg and walked with a wooden substitute. It is said that a large number of his comrades never knew what his real name was. Mr. Neal was born in Hall county, near Gainesville. He served during the war of the sixties as a private in company I, Forty-second Georgia volunteers. He was a true and faithful soldier. When Mr. Neal registered at the home he gave as his sole living relative one sister. Every effort to locate her has proved futile. The funeral will be held from Poole's chapel Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment in West View. Additional Comments: Online records of this company and regiment state that Benjamin G. Neal was born on December 27, 1834, in Cobb county, Ga.
