The Marietta Journal, June 18 1885
Our community was shocked on Tuesday morning to learn of the death of our fellow
townsman, Mr Luke S NORTHCUTT, which occurred at his home Monday night about 12
o'clock.  Mr NORTHCUTT was on our streets Monday afternoon apparently in good
health and no one apprehended his sudden demise.  Heart disease is attributed as
the cause.  He was one of our oldest citizens and is well-known throughout this
section.  He has been engaged in merchandising in this place the best part of
his life, until the present year.  Mr NORTHCUTT was about 61 years of age and
had been married three times, his third wife surviving him.  He leaves several
grown sons and daughters to mourn his death, to whom we extend our sympathy. 
His funeral was held at St James' Episcopal Church, Tuesday afternoon at 5
o'clock, Rev C C Leman officiating.
