Mr Northcutt, who was a retired merchant and one of the best liked men in Marietta, had taken an active interest in the civic and religious life of the community up until the time of his last illness. He was the youngest son and the last surviving member of the family of the late Reverend Elijah Northcutt. He was born Jan. 1st, 1859, in Paulding County near Cross Roads Church, of which his father was pastor. On April 20, 1879, he was married to Miss Sarah Jane McLain, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs C P McLain of Acworth. Mr Northcutt moved to Longview, Texas, in 1884, returning to Marietta, Ga., the following year and spent the remainder of his life here. He was actively engaged in mercantile business in this city until 1920, when he had to retire on account of ill health. He united with the Baptist Church in the year 1884, serving as a deacon of the First Baptist church of Marietta for the last 25 years of his life. The funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist church on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 3 pm., Rev A J Morgan of Acworth, Dr J H Patton and Dr R C Cleckler officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery. The pall-bearers were Mr James W Legg, Mr Geo. A Griffin, Mr James Groves, Mr J J Daniell, Mr J D Black and Mr John R Fowler. Mr Northcutt is survived by his wife, four sons, Geo. T, Chas. E, Howard M, and Douglas, and one daughter, Mrs Harold Hawkins; by seven grandchildren, all of Marietta.
