W. Squires Mrs. J. W. Squires passed quietly away Saturday afternoon at her home on Kennesaw Avenue after a second stroke of paralysis. She was Miss Julia Atkins before her marriage and was 66 years old. She was married on June 29th 1867. Beside her husband she leaves three sons, J. H. Squires, of Atlanta, Robert L. and Thomas L. of Marietta, three daughters, Mrs. T. C. Hunter, of Chattanooga, Mrs. Harry Williams, of Greenville, S. C. and Miss Evie Squires, who was her mother's constant companion and greatest comfort. The pastor, Dr. Rembert Smith conducted the funeral at the residence which had been her sweet home for so many happy years. Mrs M. D. Hodges was at the piano while the comforting old hymns, "Nearer My God To Thee," "Asleep In Jesus" and "Abide With Me" were sweetly sung by Mrs. Charlie Stephens, Mrs. Charlie Northcutt, Mr. Homer Lewis and Mr. Frank Hardeman. The pallbearers were J. H. Barnes, C. A. Ward, M. A. Moore, Robert Howell, E. L. Milam and Fate Hyde. The floral tributes were numerous and lovely, among them a pillow of white gladioli and pink roses from her children and from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers two wreaths, one of pink and one of purple asters. The interment was in the city cemetery and a throung of sorrowing relatives and friends followed this beloved woman to her last resting place. Among those from out of town beside her sons and daughter were Mrs. Joe Ray, Mrs. Ralph Reese, Mrs Bert Goodman, Miss Jeannette Williams, Mrs. Allena Murphy, Mrs. B. D. Fincannon and Mr. Gus Manning, of Atlanta, her grandson Corporal Nelson Williams, of Camp Wheeler, Mrs Alvin Moore, Mrs. Will Long, Miss Grace Atkins and Mr. Will Atkins of Chattanooga.
