Gramling, 73, well-known Atlanta and Marietta business man, died Monday night at his home on Powder Springs street, following a long illness. He had been prominently identified in business circles here for 45 years, and was a prominent member of the Methodist church. Mr. Gramling was born in Forsyth county, Georgia, December 12, 1850, and moved to Atlanta in the early 70's to take a position in the shoe store of Edleman and Brown. He, with his late brother, John R. Gramling, and Dr. R. B. Spalding, formed the firm of Gramling-Spalding company, wholesale shoe merchants in January, 1875, and continued to operate under that name until May 1, 1919, when the firm changed to Gramling, Spalding and Collinsworth. He moved to Marietta in 1895 and continued his residence there until his death. He was a member of the board of stewards of the Methodist church in Marietta, the Water and Light Board, served as trustee for Reinhardt college, Young Harris college, the Home for Superannuated Ministers of the Methodist Church and the Decatur Orphans Home. He is survived by his widow, former Miss Eloise Simpson, of Marietta; four daughters, Mrs. Howard Perkinson, and Mrs. Thomas W. Reed, Jr, both of Marietta; Mrs. Harry Miles and Mrs. Oliver Hereth, both of Indiana; two sons, John Gramling, of Columbus, Ohio, and Thomas A. Gramling, Jr. of Marietta; two sisters, Mrs. W. F. Moore and Mrs. H. T. Bell, of Marietta, and a brother, W. S. Gramling, of Atlanta. A great number of relatives and friends attended the funeral of T. A. Gramling, which was held from the residence Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. C. Clecker, pastor of the First Methodist church, Dr. J. H. Patton, of the Presbyterian, and the Rev. J. Wylie Quillian, presiding elder of the Augusta district. All paid high tribute to Mr. Gramling's earnest Christian life and many philanthropic deeds. The pallbearers were Richard Simpson and Ellis Talley, of Knoxville, Tenn.; W. S. Spalding and M. S. McNeel, L. B. Robeson, George A. Griffin, and E. P. Dobbs, of Marietta. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mrs. Olive Hereth, and Mrs. J. H. Miles, of Indianapolis; Mrs. J. C. Talley, Miss Pearl Simpson, R. H. Simpson, and Ellis and Alvin Talley of Knoxville, Tenn.; Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Clay of Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. Will Spalding, Mr. Robert Hemphill, William Gramling, and Robert Gramling all of Atlanta; Quillian Kellogg, of Jasper; Will Galt, of Canton; Mrs. Louise Adams, of Atlanta, and the Rev. Grambling of Marietta, many years ago a citizen of Cumming, died at his Marietta home Monday. He was 72 years old, and is survived by a wife, several children, and a number of other relatives...
