The Marietta Journal, Monday, July 3, 1944

County Farm Overseer Found Dead In Bed
A coroner's inquest was scheduled for 5 p.m. today into the death of J.R. 
Raines, 69, overseer at the Cobb County prison farm, who was found dead in his 
bed this morning, at the guard's quarters at the farm. 

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Church, with 
interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Albert M. Dobbins is in charge.

Surviving Mr. Raines are three daughters, Mrs. A.W. Gentry and Mrs. Gordon 
Beasley, of Smyrna, and Mrs. A.J. Cunningham, of Marietta, and four sons, A.L. 
Raines, of Canton, Ohio; Gleen and Wayne Raines, both of Marietta, and Wade 
Raines, with the Navy at Camp Perry,Virginia.
