Mrs B Smith of Acworth, Passes Friday; Was 87

Mrs Bethena Smith, 87 years of age, died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs
Lou Crawford, near Acworth.  Mrs Smith had been in declining health for several
months prior to her death.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at New Hope church with Rev J C
McCollum and Rev M A McCoy officiating.  J F Collins and Sons were in charge of
the funeral arrangements.

Mrs Smith was born in Franklin County in 1846.  She had been living at her home
near Acworth for 52 years and had been a member of the New Hope Baptist church
since childhood.  

She is survived by three sons, T O Smith of Acworth; J V and J S Smith, both of
Atlanta; three daughters, Mrs Harriet McDaniell, Marietta; Mrs J E Cagle,
Kennesaw; and Mrs Crawford of Acworth; and a number of grandchildren.

Additional Comments:
Armenda Bethena Kitchens is a daughter of Uriah Kitchen and Susannah Bryant
(various family members use Kitchen or Kitchens).  She first married in 1860 to
Robert Johnson in Morgan County AL and had a daughter, Harriet M (Mrs Sanford
Van McDaniell).  Her second marriage in 1865 was to Joseph E Smith, and they had
known children David Anderson Smith, John Virgil Smith, Sarah Frances (Mrs John
E Cagle) Smith, Howell Walter Smith, Mary Lou (Mrs A T Crawford) Smith, William
J Smith, Simon Jennings Smith, Thaddeus Olan Smith, Cora E Smith, and Nettie S
Smith.  

The family returned to Georgia about 1879 and lived in tha Allatoona area of
Bartow County and the Bells District area of Cherokee County, in addition to
Acworth.  Bethena, Joseph, and several of their children are buried at New Hope
Baptist Church Cemetery in Bartow County, just north of Acworth.
