She was born in Anderson, S C, and would have been 81 years of age next July. Her maiden name was Miss Melvina McGHEE, a prominent and noted family of South Carolina. She was the widow of the late Col J R TOWERS, and was a most estimable woman, whose pure and sweet life and kindly influence was a benediction. She was a woman of deep Christian piety and consecration, possessing a cultured mind, of rare clearness, whose living and tender sympathy and affectionate disposition endeared her to all who came within the circle of her influence. As a member of the Baptist church her blameless life exemplified those Christian virtues and graces that exalted human character and gave inspiration to emulation. She possessed her mental faculties up to the time of her departure. Bidding her sons and daughters good-bye as they all gathered around her bedside, a few hours thereafter, her spirit peacefully and serenely passed away. What a noble mother she has been. and how her memory will sweetly and lastly linger in the loving hearts of her devoted children. She leaves three sons, Col W M TOWERS of Rome, Ga.; Mr John TOWERS of Birmingham, Ala.; and Mr A A TOWERS of Gadsden, Ala.; and four daughters, Mrs W R MONTGOMERY, Miss Tallulah TOWERS, Miss Sena TOWERS, and Miss Mary TOWERS. The grandchildren of her household were Mr Don TOWERS of Knoxville, Tenn., and Miss Mary Dean TOWERS. The funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon, at 3:30 o'clock, at the family residence, by Dr C E W DOBBS, and the remains were interred in the city cemetery. The pall-bearers were Mr M R LYON, Dr I H SPRINGER, Judge J M STONE, Mr C T CARNES, Mr S K DICK and Mr J W LEGG. We tender our profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
