ARTHUR WOOD MURDERED

Arthur WOOD, a white man, was found dead in a ditch in 100 yards of his home
near Mableton on Tuesday last.  His head had been beaten to a bloody mass of
bruises.  He was about 30 years old and been out of the chain gang about two
weeks where he had served a sentence for an attempted assault on a white girl. 
His pocket had been turned and on the ground beneath was $2.15 in money. 
Coroner L S COX held an inquest and the verdict was "Murdered by unknown person
or persons."  The supposition is that he was murdered for the old crime.  His
body had been in the ditch since last Saturday.
