The Marietta Journal  March 31, 1898
DIED - Mr J L ZACHARY, father of Mrs J W QUILLIAN, of this place, died suddenly
in Spartanburg, S. C., on the 22nd inst.  Mr ZACHARY's home was in Augusta, Ga.,
but being in the insurance business, had has headquarters in Spartanburg.  He
was in his room with his associate, Mr HARMAN, apparently in good health, and
had requested Mr HARMAN to mail some letters.  He was in the act of dipping his
pen in ink when a pain struck him in the heart, he gave an exclamation, placed
his hand over his heart and immediately expired.  The intelligence of his sudden
death was a great shock to his wife and children.  He was 58 years old.  Besides
his wife, he leaves two sons, Mr W E ZACHARY, married and living in Columbia
county, Ga., and Mr B B ZACHARY, about 21 years old, and one daughter, Mrs J W
QUILLIAN of this place.  The funeral services were conducted in Augusta by Rev S
R ENGLAND.  Mrs QUILLIAN's mother and youngest brother will make Marietta their
home for the present with the family of Dr QUILLIAN, and they arrived in the
city on Tuesday.  We deeply sympathise with the bereaved ones in this hour of
sorrow and gloom.
