Mathis COOLIDGE--- Funeral services for Mrs. Annie May Calhoun Mathis, 87, of Rt. 1 Coolidge, were planned at 3pm today at the Kirkland-Croy-Hughes Home for Funerals Chapel, Thomasville, with the Rev. Wilbur Owens, pastor, Merrillville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was to be in Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Named as pallbearers were Paul Hughes, Willoachee, Donnie Wingate, Albany, John D. Hughes, Warren, Sherrod and Alvin Hughes, all of Merrillville, and Buddy Duren, Thomasville, She died Saturday in Merrillville after a three-year illness. A native of Colquitt county, she was the daughter of the late H. C. and Frutilla Carroll Calhoun. She was married in 1924 to Richard Lee Mathis who died in 1960. She had been a Thomasville County resident for 40 years, moving here from Moultrie and was a member of Merrillville Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. O. F. Whiten, Merrillville; four sons, L. H. Hughes, Doerun, A. B. Hughes, Merrillville, J. R. Hughes, Albany, and W. H. Hughes, Willoachee; one sister, Elizabeth C. King; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a number of step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Additional Comments: Annie was born Jan 1879 to Henry C. Calhoun and Ophelia Flutella Carroll Calhoun. Her first husband was John Quincy Hughes. Georgia death certificate #009995.
