I James Harrison being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and knowing that all men must die. I make this my last will and testament in the following words to wit: I request my executors to bury my body in a decent manner. First I give my beloved mother Elizabeth Harrison the sum of fifteen hundred dollars, in cash. 2nd. I give my beloved brother in law John Embree my negro woman Peg & her children to him & his heirs forever. 3rd. I give my beloved brother Richard Harrison my negro man Toney and his sister Silva & her children to him & his heirs forever. 4th. I give my beloved brother Berryman S. Harrison my negro woman Silvie to him and his heirs forever. 5th. I give my nephew Sullivan Harrison a negro boy named Allen to him & his heirs forever. 6th. I give my neice Nancy Embree a negro boy named Tom & his maw? to her & her heirs forever. 7th. I give to my brother Terrill C. Harrison a negro boy named Bob to him & his heirs forever. 8th. I give my nephew Allen H. Jones my lot of land I have drawn in the purchase to him & his heirs forever. 9th. I give my neice Polly K. Embree two cow heaters?. 10th. My crop and stock of all kinds and notes of hand due me I leave to pay al my just debts which I may owe at my decease and to pay my mother her legacy. H Lastly I appoint my beloved brother in law John Embree and my beloved brother Terril C. Harrison executors to this my last will and testament to carry the same into effect according to the terms thereof hereby revoking all former wills. H In whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal this 30 November 1820. Signed sealed and acknowledged his as his last will and testament James X Harrison in presence of us who saw him mark sign the same & signed it ourselves witnessed in his presence. John Howard James G. Powers Mark Price Davis Georgia, Columbia County} In the court of ordinary John Howard, James G. Powers and Mark Price Davis, the three subscribing witnesses to the within instrument after being duly sworn on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God saith they were present and saw James Harrison subscribe his mark to the foregoing instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his last will and testament and that he was of sound mind & disposing memory and that they subscribed their names as witnesses to the same by the request and in the presence of the testator and in the presence of each other. Sworn to in open court John Howard this 7 May 1821. James G. Powers Mark Price Davis S. Crawford---Clk. Letters Testamentary put on page 534. Inventory & Appraisement of the Estate (p.7) indicated James Harrison had over $6000.00 in property. Signed by John Embree on 26 May 1821 Schedule of sales for the estate of James Harrison (p.10) indicated a total sales amount of $1796.56 (this did not include the items willed to others by James Harrison) and was dated 1 December 1821 and signed by John Embree. Two items sold that were of particular interest were a set of dictionaries ($2.75) sold to Thomas Dooly (a neighbor & one of the appraisers) and what I presume to be another book, St. Clairs Poems was sold to James' nephew, Berryman Embree (.25).
