Know all men by these presents (?) that I, Augustus Lamkin, knowing that I am in feeble health but of sound mind and being desirous of settling my affairs in order to prevent all litigation after my death, do will and declare as follows; 1st. It is my will that all my just and lawful debts be paid at as early a period as possible after my death. 2nd. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Mary Ann Elizabeth, for and in behalf of herself and my three children, William, James Alexander, and Griffin Edmonston, all of my property both real and personal whenever actuated, consisting of lands, stock, cotton, money, jewels, household furniture, and in short every other piece of property belonging to me at the time of my death, after my just debts are paid. The same to be kept together and under management of my said beloved wife Mary Ann Elizabeth and no division to be made thereof unless my wife may deem it necassary until my youngest child Griffin attains the age of twenty-one years. 3rd. When my youngest child Griffin Edmonston becomes twenty-one years and in the event of his death before attaining to that age, then as soon as my second youngest child, James Alexander, attains his twenty-first year, I declare it to be my will that my beloved wife, Mary Ann Elizabeth, give off to each of my said children, James Alexander, and Griffin Edmonston, fifteen hundred dollars so as to make --- equal as to my other son William to whom I have given that amount and should the Estate be able to make a larger division, then to give to each of my children, William, James and Griffin five hundred dollars, ----, but it is expressly provided and declared that unless my beloved wife considers that the Estate can afford to make this second division of five hundred dollars, without imposing her comfort and support from said Estate, this division to be ---- to whatever aim my wife may consider right and expedient. 4th. I appoint my beloved wife Gaurdian for my youngest children James and Griffin and I further appoint her executrix on my Estate with the usual ----. On witnesseth whereof I have subscribed this my last Will and Testament before and in presence of: Benjamin Samuels Jeremiah Germany William McLean all of Columbia County, Georgia this Eighth day of February, Eighteen hundred and Sixty-Eight years. Augustus Lamkin Columbia Court of Ordinary at Chambers - Sept. 14, 1869. Before me came on the 14th of September 1869 at Chambers for the purpose of ---- the last Will and Testament of Augustus Lamkin, Dr. Wiliiam McLean and Jeremiah Germany two of the subscribing witnesses to said will and testament they having ---- brought before me at the time for probate by the Executrix Mary Ann Elizabeth Lamkin they the said witnesses --- of the same that they saw Augustus Lamkin sign and publish the same as his last Will and Testament on the day it purports to have been executed by him and that they witnessed the same for him at his request and in his presence.
