A. FAUSETT WAS PROGRESSIVE John Albert Fausett, Jr., the son of Rebecca and John Albert Fausett, Sr. of Cochran, was born in 1879. Mr. Fausett came to Adel as a permanent resident in 1920. He opened the Gulf Oil Corporation office here in 1921 and remained their distributor until a short time before his death in 1958. He was a member of the city council for many years and worked diligently towards the projects for paving the city streets and side walks. He was the moving factor in opening a tobacco market in Adel and kept statistics on the sales of the local market until the time of his death. Mr. Fausett loved Adel and gave generously of his time, energy and money to help make it the progressive community that it is today. Always aware of the need for new industries for the city, he was active in bringing to Adel the Adel Canning Plant, Metal Products, C. an D. Sportswear and others. He was also involved in city affairs, such as building the Phil Cook Hotel and the Cook Memorial Hospital. Mr. Fausett was an ardent fisherman, a Mason, and a charter member of the Commercial Club, which was the first civic organization in Cook County. He was also a charter member of the Threescore Years and Ten Club. He married the former Vera Lenton Wright of Adel in 1918. They had one daughter, Lenton Rebecca now Mrs. Wayne Wiseman.
