She was born in Sparks, GA on December 18, 1933 to Ben and Exie Whitehurst. S She was a graduate of Martin High School in Martin, TN, and Baptist Memorial S School of Nursing, Memphis, TN. After finishing school, she worked for Dr. J James C. Dismuke in Adel, GA. Upon moving to Perry, FL in 1963, she worked with s several of the local doctors in their private practices. She then went to work a at Doctors Memorial Hospital, where she served as director of the Emergency D Department and Taylor County Ambulance Services. She became Director of Nursing a at Doctors Memorial Hospital, where she stayed until her retirement in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe L. Hardee; brothers, Raymond, Ben “Boatsie” Whitehurst, Jr. and Jarman Whitehurst and sister, Carolyn Norris. She is survived by her daughters, Leesa Blume of Sparks, GA, Leslie Cicone of Tallahassee, FL, and Lee Ann Ennis of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughters, Rylee Ennis, Laura Cicone and grandson, Rob Ennis. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday October 25, 2012, at the old Hardeetown Hardeetown Cemetery in Chiefland, FL. Boone Funeral Home is serving the Hardee family.
