Resta, Sr., 100, of Adel died June 25, 2012, at his residence. He was born August 8, 1911, in New York, NY, to the late Ulderico and Lucrezia Soreno Resta. He lived in Greenwood, MS, during his military service, then moved back to New York for 16 years before residing in Fort Myers, FL, where he retired and then moved to Cook County 13 years ago. He attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Valdosta, was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he has held every office, and was a veteran of WWII with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He also worked for Bloomingdale’s while in New York, was employed as a g geologist and oil driller in California and was the owner of several service s stations in Fort Myers. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lena Belle Parrish Resta, whom he met on a blind date and married January 20, 1945; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Marsha Resta of LaBelle, FL, Bobby and Jan Resta and Barry and Ellen Resta, all of Adel; seven grandchildren, Seal and Annie Resta and Amanda and James Ray all of Adel, Curtis and Anna Resta of Ray City, Andy and Ginger Resta, Clint and Karlene Resta, all of Dallas, TX, Mellissa and Daniel Lynch of LaBelle, FL, Chad and Margie Resta of Valdosta; 12 great-grandchildren. He was p preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services were held June 29 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Deacon Ray Brown, Rev. James R. “Ricky” Pilcher and Rev. Ted Graham officiating, with remarks by Sean Resta. Jerry and Sharon Hamner sang “The Lighthouse” and “The Potter Knows the Clay.” Interment followed at Sylvester Cemetery in Cook County with military honors. Ellen Wiggins sang “Amazing Grace” at the graveside. Active pallbearers were Tony Parrish, Tony Franks, Billy Mainor, David Mainor, Steve Steve Parrish, Johnnie Parrish. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Blount, Randy Tillman, Craig Hamner, Carlton Parri Parrish, John Mainor, Bobby Yarbrough, Mike Ledbetter. The Knights of Columbus serve served as Honor Guard during the visitation. Boone Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
