"Mrs. Pearlie," as she has affectionately been known around Cook County for many years, was born on New Years's Day, January 1, 1906, in Clinch County to the late Leman L. and Susie Vivian Register. The eldest of seven children, she was lifetime resident of Cook County, having moving there with her family as a young child and attending Cook County Schools. She was a longtime member of Adel United Methodist Church and Glad Tidings Circle. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was actively involved in her family's businesses and activities. She was a great cook and loved spending time with and cooking for her big family. She was also an astute business woman. In 1926, at the age of 20, she briefly moved to Columbus, GA to live with her grandmother and work in the local Woolworth's. It was there that she met and married her late husband, Asa Grady Williams, and where together they operated a restaurant business until the Depression took its toll. They then returned to settle permanently in Cook County to be near family, farm and raise their children. When Asa died in 1954, the rest of the family kept the farm going a few more years before moving into town in 1959. Left a young widow, she soon began selling a new product called "Tupperware" out of her home; she was such a good saleswoman and hard worker, she soon became a district manager for the company, traveling the South GA district for many years. She continued to sell Tupperware as a side job, even after opening a small motel in Adel in 1966, and continued to do so until she retired from Tupperware in 1993. Adding to her already busy schedule, in 1976, she also began working in her son's budding business, the King Frog Restaurant and Clothing Outlet, where she became a beloved "fixture" in the business, cashiering, rolling silverware, and greeting her many customers as they entered. Never one to sit at home, she had continued living alone and "renting rooms" until her recent illness and hospitalization. Survivors include her son, John L. Williams of Adel; six grandchildren, Diane (Ed) Stith of Hahira, John (Lori) Mathis of Adel, Debi (Paul) McNeal, Rick (Emily) Williams, Mike (Deane) Williams, all of Valdosta, Steve (Lynn) Williams of Adel; 17 great grandchildren, Keith Stith, Missy Turner, Joey Stith, Eric Croft, Suzanne Bennett, Scott Croft, Stephanie Spence, Hannah Mathis, Josh Mathis, Andrew and Josh McNeal, John and Matt Williams, Jamie and Thomas Williams, Kaysie and Candice Williams, and 14 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Vesta and Charles Thurmond, her daughter-in-law, Joyce Williams; her granddaughter, Gail Hall and her six siblings, Mayme Postell Jordan, Pauline Hayes, Lona Belle Brown, Mary Nell Joiner, Walker Register and Marvin Register. Donations may be made to Adel United Methodist Church in her memory. Funeral services were held Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. at Adel United Methodist Church with the Revs. V. L. Daughtrey, Craig Hutto and Jimmy Sharp officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex. Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
