It is tradition that in the early days of Maryland, the parents of two Dennis boys came with them from England, that both parents died and an uncle took the boys back to England and educated them. Just before the Revolution the brothers returned to Maryland and during the Revolution the fortunes of war separated them and they never heard of each other again. Circumstances indicate that the family found in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, just after the Revolution is descended from one of these brothers, Samuel Dennis, Sr., Samuel Dennis, Jr., and William Dennis were living in Orangeburg in 1799.
