It was published quarterly, and was the precursor to the current newsletter issued by the Coweta County Genealogical Society, which was first published in Spring 1982. RECORD OF BIRTHS, BAPTISMS, COMMUNION SEASONS, MARRIAGES, AND DEATHS, in the EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH MT. PILGRIM Near Haralson, Georgia PUBLISHED AND SOLD BY T. NEWTON KURTZ No. 151 West Pratt street BALTIMORE Haralson, Ga. January 24th 1861 Rev. J. T. Bowles, a graduate of Newbery College, S. C. received a call, and took charge of Mt. Pilgrim church as its regular pastor on the above date. This record was brought at his suggestion and the named of all who have been, and are members of the church, were recorded. He remained as regular pastor from 24 of January to the 1st of June 1862. He received and accepted the position of Chaplain in the 53 Georgia Regt, Col. Dayl commander, on the 12 of May and preached his farewell discourse, in Mt. Pilgrim church the 1st of May to an attentive congregation from Revelation 22, Chapter 21 (?). Thus ended his short career at this charge and he embarked in his country's cause as minister. On the 31st of Jan 1864, the Rev. J. T. Bowles of Haralson & Pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Ch. Coweta Co. and St. Johns Spalding Co. Ga. died of small pox and his remains deposited in the cemetary of Mt. Pilgrim. His funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. L. Bedenbaugh of Haralson & former Pastor of said charge to an unusually large & attentive audience on the 21st of Feb. 1864. Text Heb. 13:7 - services concluded by Rev. E. Elmore. Rev. L. Bedenbaugh served as Pastor untill the fall of /64 when he give up the charge to Rev. J. D. Bowles who served as Pastor until July 1866 - when Rev. L. Bedenbaugh was elected & installed at Synod July 21st 1866 - as regular Pastor. Novem 12, 1867 (This is on one of the fly pages of this book. The ink appears to be brown and due to fading of ink and the fancy writing, it is difficult at times to read. I am typing as is. I have made Xerox copies of these two books but some of the pages did not come out well enough to read so I am typing direct from the books.)
